
Dr. Swarnalatha Kanneganti, MD, FACC, is a distinguished interventional cardiologist and the visionary Founder of Rudhira Heart and Vascular Institute in McAllen, Texas. Her commitment to cardiovascular health is evident through her extensive training and dedicated service to the community.
Dr. Kanneganti commenced her medical journey at Gandhi Medical College, India. Following her foundational education, she relocated to the United States, where she completed an Internal Medicine residency at Easton Hospital, Easton, Pennsylvania. She further specialized in cardiovascular health by undertaking a Cardiovascular Diseases fellowship at Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio.
After her initial fellowship, Dr. Kanneganti served as a cardiologist in the Rio Grande Valley (McAllen) for five years, building a strong connection with the local community. Driven by a desire to advance her procedural expertise, she pursued an Interventional Cardiology fellowship at the University of Arizona – Phoenix. Her deep appreciation for the Rio Grande Valley and its people led her to return to McAllen, where she continues to provide essential healthcare services.
Dr. Kanneganti holds multiple board certifications, underscoring her comprehensive expertise. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is board-eligible for Interventional Cardiology. Additionally, she is certified in Nuclear Cardiology and holds an RPVI certification (Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation).
Her contributions to cardiovascular research are notable, including several published case reports, numerous poster and oral presentations, a review article on “Commotio Cordis,” and a unique
Poem on Heart.
Dr. Kanneganti is proficient in a wide array of cardiac procedures, including Right & Left heart catheterization, Coronary Angiogram, Endomyocardial Biopsy, and Percutaneous Coronary Interventions. Her advanced interventional techniques encompass Thrombectomy, Intravascular Shockwave Lithotripsy (IVL), Rotational Atherectomy, Orbital Atherectomy, and Laser Atherectomy. Furthermore, she is trained in Peripheral Vascular Interventions and is dedicated to limb salvage in patients with Critical Limb Ischemia to prevent amputations.
Her additional skill sets include Temporary Transvenous Pacemaker placement, Permanent Pacemaker Insertion, Micra Permanent Pacemaker Insertion, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump Insertion, Impella Left Ventricular Assist Device Insertion, CardioMEMS Heart Failure Sensor Implantation, Pulmonary Angiogram, and PFO/ASD Occluder Insertion.
Fluent in English and proficient in basic Spanish, Dr. Kanneganti effectively communicates and interacts with individuals from diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
